Angry Mob loot distribution
“Almost zero-sum dkp”

In a pure zero-sum system, points are only awarded when points are spent, and in the same quantity, such that the total sum of points in the system will always come to zero. We have modified this slightly so that we could award for timely and full attendance.

2 points are awarded at raid start time to everyone who is in the instance and ready. If you must leave before the allocated raid end time you forfeit these points unless you have found a suitable replacement and the switch can happen swiftly.

When a boss is downed, the loot master will first link all loot, then link each piece one by one in raid chat. Tier pieces will be handled first, since those are the most critical decisions for people to make. Once the loot master links an item you are interested in for your main spec, whisper them directly. They will consult the DKP rankings of everyone in the raid, whoever is highest out of those who whispered will take the piece and 25 dkp will be subtracted from their total. Then everyone in the raid will gain 1 point (including the person who spent, so the actual cost is 24 dkp per piece).

Toons that have a more restrictive gear level get priority on gear they can use over those who have less. For example, a holy priest would get to take cloth healing gear over a resto druid, the resto druid would take healing leather over a resto shaman, etc. This concept of restrictive priority still applies when items move to off-spec rounds.

An off-spec round will occur if no one whispers the loot master for a given piece. They will then open it up to rolls for off-specs only (if you can use it for your main spec you are not allowed to roll during this round). Taking a piece for off-spec costs 0 dkp.

Proposed change for 3.1: The off-spec pass will be open only to people who have purchased the dual-spec ability, have declared that type as their secondary spec and gotten it approved by their CO. If no one takes it who fits those qualifications then it can go for a third pass to anyone who can use it. For example: Paladin A is ret primary spec and approved holy secondary spec. Paladin B is ret and has not purchased the dual spec ability. If a holy piece moves to an off-spec roll, A would get to roll while B would not. If a tanking piece moves to an off-spec roll, they would both get to roll on it, since neither of them have a declared off-spec of tank.

Decay: This is what allows the extra points to be taken out of the system, and prevents people from massing a thousand dkp at the top of the list, thus giving people entering the system a more reasonable time before they might expect to get a piece. We do a 10% decay per week, which means that at some point (usually over the weekend) everyone’s total dkp is multiplied by .9. This number is always rounded up, so for example 100 becomes 90, 39 becomes 36, 9 stays at 9, etc. Decay does also still work on negative numbers, so -40 becomes -36, giving a positive decay bonus to those who are willing to pick up whatever they can get their grubby mitts on.

Notes: Each character maintains a separate pool of dkp. Originally we were having each player attached to the pool of dkp, but we had significant upgrades getting disenchanted because people wanted to save their points for their main. To solve that issue, and still reward people who bring alts who benefit the balance of the raid, we allow players to have their dkp gains assigned to their main instead of the alt. This way, since you can go as negative as you like, players can take significant upgrades that no one else wants on their alts and still take all of their earned dkp on their main.

Alts: There is no differentiation between alts and mains in this system, it is intentionally kept simple so that all the loot master has to think about is the dkp number. This is also done to not further penalize people bringing alts for the benefit of the raid, who are already missing the chance at loot drops for their main.

Alts should only be allowed to raid 25 man DKP runs at the request of the Raid Leader.

BoE epics: are given out to main specs for dkp as normal, but do not go to an offspec round. They are instead collected to be sold for the guild bank, and as all other items in the bank, are available to any guild member for 50% of market value. If you take a BoE epic for dkp you are agreeing to use it for your character. Anyone caught selling an item purchased with dkp is likely to get gkicked.
